- A complex combination of hydrocarbons produced when petroleum vacuum tower residuum is thermally cracked in the presence of hydrogen at high pressure, and then fractionated. This fraction consists of a complex combination of hydrocarbons having carbon numbers primarily in the range C18 through C45, and boiling in the range of 315 degrees C to 580 degrees C (599 degrees F to 1076 degrees F). There will also be 1.5 to 2.5 weight percent of sulfur compounds.
