Substance Name: Turpentine oil
RN: 8006-64-2
UNII: C5H0QJ6V7F
Notes
- The concrete oleoresin obtained from PINACEAE such as longleaf pine (Pinus palustris). It contains a volatile oil, to which its properties are due, and to which form it is generally used. Turpentine is used as a solvent and an experimental irritant in biomedical research.
- TSCA Definition 2019: Any of the volatile predominantly terpenic fractions or distillates resulting from the solvent extraction of, gum, collection from, or pulping of softwoods. Composed primarily of C10H16 terpene hydrocarbons: alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, limonene, 3-carene, camphene. May contain other acyclic, monocyclic, or bicyclic terpenes, oxygenated terpenes, and anethole. Exact composition varies with refining methods and the age, location, and species of the softwood source.
